Viva Engage, Yammer and Storylines: What it means for SWOOP Analytics

The new Storyline feature for Viva Engage and Yammer is now in public preview. If the feature has been enabled in your organisation, it is now possible for a person to write a post on their own Storyline, or post it into a community. Posting to your Storyline is similar to when you post on LinkedIn.

Be assured that SWOOP Analytics is already capturing and reporting on posts made to storylines and communities. If you look at, for instance, Most Engaging Posts on SWOOP’s Enterprise dashboard it will include both types of messages.

However, we are in the process of addressing an issue we have discovered. As posts to a Storyline are not associated with a community, we are currently – and incorrectly – assuming these belong to the All Company community. This is because historically the All Company community did not have a community ID. This means that if you visit the All Company community in SWOOP it includes any Storyline post made plus posts to the community. The insights will therefore not be accurate if your company has opted in to use the new storyline during the public preview. We expect to have the issue fixed in the next few weeks.

New filter for storylines coming

We anticipate you would like to be able to compare posts made on a storyline with those made in communities. Therefore, we will be introducing a new feature on the Enterprise dashboard where you can choose to include or exclude the various message types that are made in:

  • Public communities

  • Private communities

  • Storylines

You will be able to include/exclude any of these, and that means you can choose to see, for instance, the Most Engaging Posts made on storylines. You can also choose to compare, for example, the Response Rate for Storyline posts versus community posts. This type of comparison would enable you to guide your organisation in terms of the most effective way to communicate on Yammer. We expect the new Message Type filter to appear on the Enterprise dashboard in the next 6-8 weeks.

Finally, our Product Director Matt Dodd will be inviting customers to participate in a session where we dive deeper in to how we can help you get more insights on Storylines. We would love to give you our perspective on what we think could be interesting, but we first and foremost want to hear from you. Stay tuned!

In the meantime, join the SWOOP User Group on LinkedIn to connect with SWOOPers and ask questions or connect with other customers.
